Homemade Fireball (Spiced Whiskey)

This infused whiskey drink could not be easier to make and, in my opinion, is far superior to actual Fireball. When you make it yourself, you can vary the levels of sugar and spice to make it to your liking. It also makes a fantastic gift or addition to a party.

Ingredients:

  • 750ml bourbon whiskey (nothing too expensive. A lot of the subtlety of a good whiskey will be lost with all the strong spices),
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar,
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli flakes,
  • 4-5 cinnamon sticks,
  • 3 cloves,
  • 1 star anise,
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds.
Method:

  • Place the whiskey along with all the other ingredients in a large bottle or jar.
  • Shake gently until the sugar has mostly dissolved. Not all of the sugar will dissolve at first but it will after a day or so.
  • Let sit for 4-5 days, shaking gently occasionally to ensure that all of the ingredients are being incorporated.
  • Taste to see if the mixture is to your liking. If you feel like the spicy flavours could be stronger, leave for another day.
  • Strain out all of the spices using a sieve and bottle the whiskey.
